This Privacy Policy explains what data ReadingUp collects, how we use it, and when data is
shared with third parties, including third-party AI services.
2. Data We Collect
2.1 Data You Provide or Generate
- Books/files you import into the app.
- Reading data you create, such as highlights, notes, bookmarks, and reading progress.
- AI configuration data you enter, such as API endpoint, API key, model name, and custom prompts.
- Text you select or type when using AI features.
2.2 Purchase and Subscription Data
- Subscription status and transaction metadata provided by Apple, such as product identifier, subscription state, and expiration status.
- We do not receive your full payment card details.
2.3 Device and Diagnostic Data
- Non-personal technical data such as device type, OS version, app version, and basic usage/diagnostic information used to improve stability and performance.
3. How We Use Data
We use data to:
- Provide core reading features, including import, read, annotate, and sync.
- Enable AI features when requested by you.
- Provide subscription/entitlement functionality.
- Improve app performance, reliability, and user experience.
- Comply with legal obligations.
4. Third-Party Sharing and AI Data Use
4.1 AI Services
When you use AI features, ReadingUp may send data to a third-party AI provider.
Data sent to AI providers may include:
- Selected text/content you choose.
- Your question/prompt.
- Model and request parameters needed to generate a response.
- Technical network metadata required for transmission, such as IP/network routing handled by the provider.
AI providers used by the app:
- Default provider: Zhipu AI (
open.bigmodel.cn).
- Optional provider configured by user: OpenAI (
api.openai.com), DeepSeek (api.deepseek.com), Alibaba DashScope (dashscope.aliyuncs.com), or another custom endpoint you set.
4.2 User Permission Before Sharing
Before data is first sent to a third-party AI provider, the app presents a clear in-app notice
and asks for your permission.
If you do not agree, AI data is not sent.
You can revoke or reset AI sharing permission at any time in app settings.
4.3 Other Third-Party Services
- Apple services (StoreKit / In-App Purchase, iCloud) are used for subscriptions and optional sync.

5. Data Storage and Retention
- Your books, notes, and reading data are stored on your device.
- If iCloud sync is enabled, relevant data may be stored in your iCloud account.
- AI settings you choose may be stored locally and/or synced via iCloud for your convenience.
- We retain data only as long as necessary for app functionality, legal compliance, and user-requested features.
6. Data Sharing Principles
- We do not sell personal data.
- We do not share your personal data for advertising purposes.
- We only share data with service providers when needed to provide requested functionality, such as AI response generation and Apple subscription verification or sync.
7. Your Choices and Controls
You can:
- Choose whether to use AI features.
- Edit or remove your AI API configuration.
- Deny or revoke AI data sharing permission in settings.
- Disable iCloud sync in device or app settings.
- Delete local app data by removing content or uninstalling the app.
8. Children's Privacy
ReadingUp is not directed to children under 13.
If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
9. International Data Transfer
If you use third-party AI services, your data may be processed in regions where those providers operate.
Please review the privacy terms of the provider you select.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date.
